Keeping Fido Clean!

Keeping Fido Clean!

Proper care and grooming of your pet can all depend on your pup.  Here are some guidelines, straight from Laura the Pet Nanny, that you can follow to keep your dog feeling fresh and clean!  When it comes to bathing your dog, too much is well, too much!!  Dogs do not require daily baths.  Once a month is more than enough for a pup with healthy, normal skin.  Simply bathe them monthly if needed, with use of dog shampoo or baby shampoo.  Use something nice and gentle that will not strip his skin of the healthy oils which protect his fur and skin.  If your pup has had an especially dirty play date and you need to bathe him more frequently simply use soap free or moisturizing shampoo to avoid dry skin.  If your pet’s skin becomes too dry this can be very uncomfortable as well as cause some skin issues. Daily brushing is key to maintaining a nice healthy coat in addition to healthy skin.  When you brush your pup you are removing old fur and distributing oils throughout his fur and onto his skin.  This keeps him glowing and moisturized.  This keeps your pup nice and comfy and assists with the normal shedding process as well.  It also allows for some bonding time between you and your canine pal. Hair length is another thing that you need to consider.  Please do not shave your poor pup down to his skin.  Despite what many believe, shaving your pup bald does not make them comfortable in the summer.  His coat is actually an insulator for all sorts of weather....
